The verdict of the court case against Kyle Rittenhouse - Writing Wednesday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,  Recently, I've been seeing a lot of people talking about the verdict of the Kyle Rittenhouse case which was viewed as a rather contentious verdict by many people. If you are unaware of the Kyle Rittenhouse case, the now 18 year old Rittenhouse was charged with attempted murder last year after he shot and killed two people and seriously injured another, at a Black Lives Matter protest held in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Rittenhouse claimed he fired his gun out of self defence but the prosecutor, attorney Thomas Binger, attempted to make the case that Rittenhouse was being unnecessarily violent at the protest. After watching a few of the videos on the case concerning Kyle Rittenhouse, including the cross-examination of Kyle himself, I have collated the main facts that I think are important to share. Yes, Kyle arrived at the riot with an AR-15, which he quite clearly held beside him. However, Kyle arrived in Kenosha with the aim of helpi...

The Texas Abortion Law and the responsibilities of women - Writing Wednesday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,  I was reading an article on the news recently about the new Texas Abortion Law that came into place on the 1st of September of this year. This new law stated that Texas abortion firms will not be allowed to carry out abortions on women who are 6 weeks into their pregnancy. On May 19th of this year, the Texas Heartbeat Act was signed which allowed the Texas Abortion Law to be put in place. The Texas Heartbeat Act stated that once doctors could detect a fetal heartbeat (about 6 weeks into a woman's pregnancy) abortion was not allowed to be carried out.  The introduction of this law was received with much annoyance by many women in America and other countries, and this is very much a sentiment that I uphold myself. I have heard many stories of women discovering that they were in fact pregnant a few months into their pregnancy. Although I agree that there should be a cut off point for when abortions can happen because for som...

TOK Journal Entry 5: Looking at the mobile phone popcorn experiment - Can we trust authorities of knowledge? - Writing Wednesday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,  Some people in the past have speculated whether mobile phones can cause cancer. This specific popcorn experiment, as you will see in this entry, sparked a heated debate. Let's see what the outcome of this was. I hope you enjoy!💜😀 Can we trust the authorities of knowledge?   Recently, in one of my nature of science lessons, we talked about the topic of whether phones and other pieces of technology cause cancer. We watched a short video clip that was filmed quite a while ago where three friends each put their phones together and placed popcorn cornels in the middle of the circle of phones. When the three friends rang their mobiles on separate phones, it looked like the popcorn cornels popped because of the phones. However, there was some doubt in my mind about whether this was actually true because when you pop popcorn cornels inside a saucepan, it takes a significant amount of heat energy to make the popcorn. In contrast...

The story of Lance Armstrong - Writing Wednesday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,  I know that this post is probably going to immediately frustrate some people just by even reading the title. However, I thought that it would be interesting to voice Lance's side of the huge scandal that he was involved in because I think that it broadcasts a much larger message than just that he was selfish and completely lost the dignity of his fans. It voices some of the crude truths that go on behind the scenes when athletes train and you soon realise then that the sportsmanship and the camaraderie that is supposedly what formulates events like the Tour de France and even the Olympics, is not what formulates them at all. Instead they have become epicentres for drugs related issues in sports and pretty much anything that questionably enhances the performance of athletes because unhealthy competition now overrides the value of representing the sport. So yes, Lance was a manipulator and is probably one of the biggest liars to...

1st Entry for TOK: What should we do about China's internment camps? - Writing Wednesday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, For one of our Theory of Knowledge lessons (Philosophy in other words), we have to write a 250-500 word essay every 2 weeks to consolidate our knowledge and add to our Theory of Knowledge journals. It can be about a current affair, a piece of artwork, media, or a personal story that links to our aspects of knowledge (perspective, culture etc). It's not the most interesting thing to do in the world to be honest but I decided to therefore write something interesting that I could get a lot out of. It's not the best entry for a TOK journal as it doesn't fill all the necessary requirements but I wanted to share it on here because I thought that the message was important. I hope you enjoy reading it and find it interesting!❤️ A current affair that has been of particular concern to me recently is the treatment of the  Uyghur   Muslims  in China and what  we as a foreign country ha ve  decided to do in  ...
