Scudamore's staff party + a hectic journey to Spain - Lifestyle Monday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,  If you follow me on my Instagram stories, @jujupage1, you would have seen that I attended a staff party last week organised by Scudamore's, the punting company that I work for in Cambridge. At first, I wasn't sure if I would be able to go. The staff party was on a Wednesday evening and I was expected to fly out to Seville, Spain, early the next morning with my parents. I wasn't sure if I would get enough sleep for my journey the next day if I did end up going but when I went to work on Tuesday, my two river tour guide friends, Sophie and Leonie, convinced me that it was a good idea that I should go, even if it was only going to be for a couple of hours. To be honest, I'm glad I did go because it was a lot of fun. The party was hosted on Robinson Crusoe Island, which is a green space located by the river going up towards Grantchester. I was expecting there to be a few drinks, as well as a couple of snacks, but there...

The last few shifts before a week of travel - Writing Wednesday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, On the day that you're reading this, I will be going away on holiday the next day for a week with my mum and dad. My older sister Alice has decided to travel to Prague with her boyfriend for a week too so we'll both be away around this time. Last week, as well as Monday and Tuesday of this week, I decided to work my final few shifts at Scudamore's before travelling. I will be working at the punting company during the autumn as well but because I went from doing the IB to doing river tours straight afterwards, I thought it was best to take a small break in-between, so that I could be refreshed and ready for the autumn season coming up.  There are two punting stations at Scudamore's, one at Mill Pond and one at Quayside, and they are both at opposite ends of the river. There are two different stations because the company can then pick up customers on both sides of the river, but the river tour guides can choose to wor...

My travel bucket list - Lifestyle Monday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, Sorry for not posting a dance article on Saturday. I was ill with a bad bug on Friday evening and I wanted to rest instead of finishing up a blog post but I'm back now. Today, I'm going to be talking about a few of the places that I would like to go to at some point in the distant future. It's nice to have something to work towards and there are definitely a few countries that I've been having my eye on recently so I'm going to share them with you today. Enjoy! I think the first place that I would really like to go to is Japan. As I'm taking standard level Japanese at school, I may have the opportunity to do this with my school but taking into consideration the current climate we're all in, I know that if that doesn't happen, I can always go myself. I actually have some relatives in Japan and so I thought it would be nice at some point to rekindle that side of my family and visit a truly amazing coun...

Cycling into town - Lifestyle Monday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,  On Wednesday, me and my sister finally cycled into Cambridge. I wasn't exactly prepared for it all as my sister sprung the idea of going when I was in the middle of having my breakfast that morning. However, I said before that this was something that I had wanted to do so after I had finished eating my breakfast, I got dressed and ready, oiled my chain, pumped up my tyres, and packed a few things for the journey. I don't know if anyone else has experienced similar issues with bicycle locks but as soon as I got my bicycle lock a few years ago, I was determined to remember the code and so I wrote it down on a piece of paper and backed it up on my phone. However, it turns out that I threw the piece of paper in the bin and I've changed phones over the years so did I remember it? Absolutely NOT! So now I have a perfectly decent bicycle lock that I can't even remember the code for! It didn't really matter anyway be...

My holiday in the Isle of Wight - Highlights - Lifestyle Monday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,  *Firstly, sorry for my slight absence on social media. The Wi-Fi in our cottage was not working for a while so I couldn't post anymore photos or upload blog posts like I'd hoped to during the week. I hope you've managed to catch up on what I got up to on holiday recently. It's nice to take a social media break anyway. However, if you've read my previous post, you'll know that on Friday I went on holiday to the Isle of Wight. As we couldn't really go to Réunion like we'd planned for this year, me and my family thought it would be a good idea to take a little holiday out and a nice week here seemed like the best plan. My dad has a friend who lives in the Isle of Wight and he had connections with people who owned holiday homes there and since this was the cheapest place out of all the destinations we looked at, we didn't hesitate on going. It was a little bit of a rocky 4 hour drive there because I...

Going to Felixstowe for the day - Lifestyle Monday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,  On Thursday, me and my family went to Felixstowe to hopefully spend some time at the beach. We were not sure what it was going to be like because there were loads of photos on the news of the beaches being completely packed with people, with absolutely no social distancing what so ever. However, it was a sunny day and we were desperate to go somewhere different so we took the risk, packed our things (towels, water bottles, and a picnic) and drove the hour long journey to the beach. It was somewhat nostalgic to see the beach again. Everyone seems to complain about how bad and unattractive Felixstowe is because it's a sea port but once you see what it's truly like for yourself, you realise that the beaches are beautiful and hardly touched by any people. To our benefit, the fact that there were very few people on the beach meant that it was easy to maintain our distance from others. However, we'd just realised how naive w...

Going out for the first time in 2 months - Lifestyle Monday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, A week ago on Sunday, it was announced that the lockdown in the UK would at least be somewhat lifted. I was quite happy about that because although I seemed to be surviving well just walking by the field that's behind our house, the effects of cabin fever seemed to be catching up on me as well. On Tuesday, me, my sister, and my mum actually took a proper walk around our village. Although I've been doing some walks in the fields, I haven't actually taken a casual stroll on the streets of my village in the 2 months of lockdown because my parents advised that it was best to stay clear of as many people as possible. So when I actually took the time to walk around my village, even that seemed to bring back some sense of freedom. It was still weird for me to walk past my school knowing that had all this not happened, I would probably be in the peak of exam season. For some odd reason, I'm still taking in how much has chan...

Race Across the World - Lifestyle Monday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,  I would say that I really enjoy travelling, even if it can be quite exhausting at times. When I went on my history trip to Berlin in year 10, I definitely found the 16 hour coach journey there quite strenuous, as did many other people on the coach. However, I'm really glad I went because it was a great and memorable experience and it pushed me out of my comfort zone. That is why I try to encourage as many people as I can to start travelling because it definitely strengthens you as a person. You don't necessarily have to go far; you could even go on a small road trip with your friends. But taking the time to try something new makes you more confident and self-assured in other phases of your life. I think this is why I've really enjoyed watching the second series of Race Across The World because it encompasses all the great things about travelling and seeing the world. If you haven't already heard of Race Across Th...

Diary entry: Sixth form, Tiffany's Theatre College, and revision! - 1 Year To Get To College (Post 10) - Writing Wednesday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,  It's a couple weeks into the term and there's already quite a lot to think about. Today, I found out that one of my two sixth form applications was acknowledged and the other was still being sent to the provider. This most likely means that interviews are coming up, where sixth forms will ask questions about you and you have to tell them all the things you like doing and what you're good and bad traits are, etc. I'm not nervous at all for these. If anything I'm quite excited because it will be an excellent chance to talk about myself and to promote my talents. I'm hopefully going to mention my blog to them, since I'm hoping to take English as one of my courses in sixth form. However, I'm still very much on the fence about where I want to go, to be honest. I had it in my head for so long that I wanted to go to this quite competitive college but after a conference day that we had about post 16, I re...
