My creative process - Lifestyle Monday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, Today, I just wanted to talk about my creative process and how I get the inspiration to come up with new dance routines and blog posts. When I went on my work experience at a nearby dance school, I think my forte was really coming up with different routines for the students. The owner of the studio, really praised me on my choreography  over anything else because I think that I have quite a creative mindset. To come up with these routines, I would often pick out the music I wanted to do the routine to, then I would start coming up with some moves in one of the empty studios. Then I would also film myself doing the routine, like the video I uploaded on my channel and on my Instagram. This really helped me to figure out what looked good and what didn't. Then, once I've tweaked a couple things, I came up with a full routine. However, when I'm writing blog posts, I usually get my ideas from just writing down something. I

Oti and Kelvin's epic Samba and Will and Janette's insane quickstep on week 1- Dance Saturday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, Last Saturday, I watched the first episode of Strictly Come Dancing, 2019! I can't believe how amazing each couple was. For week 1, it was definitely like watching an episode at week 8.  In Kelvin and Oti's samba, Kelvin really maintained great technique, and I think that was what made him have the highest score of the day. For a male to be good at samba they must keep up with the beat of the music because in the samba, you really have to be able to move your hips. I think that was what he was good at doing and it was clear to see because he kept up with Oti. He also had excellent musicality and rhythm during his samba basic and walks. What I would correct is his hand placement, like Craig said because when he was exchanging arms with Oti, his hands were slightly splayed. However, other than that, his performance really looked professional and I think the whole audience was surprised by this dance. BBC Strictly Come

Ambition takes courage, will, and self-belief - Writing Wednesday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, Ambition takes the sort of effort that often brings a lot of people down. Most of the time, people have lost their ambition because the work needed to achieve that goal, is often hard and discouraging. People also lose ambition because other people are bringing them down and they begin to wonder if what they're doing is right. Others also believe that ambition takes will and determination because sometimes the goal that you want to achieve, may not always seem possible. Despite my determination and will to want to succeed, sometimes I do think that my goals are a battle that simply cannot be won, even though I know that that's not true. I would personally love to set up my own set of dance studios in the future, for anyone to join, but I know that that's going to take a lot of hard graft in order to achieve that. I need to get the correct training in dance and teaching but I also need to believe in myself that it is g

There's nothing better than being on the other side of fear - Lifestyle Monday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, In the modern day world, equal rights have become a huge part of the western world. Even if it's not introduced in every single country yet, it's something that is definitely being talked about. It is a real part of who we are as a united front and it has solved many problems that have troubled us in the past. That is brilliant because it shows that we're getting better. However, as well as solving many problems, it has also brought many buried problems to the surface that we might not have known existed. With equal rights, whilst we are getting along better, we're also beginning to forget that the outside world is still an extremely competitive place to be. Sometimes, we can get so wrapped up in thinking that everyone is at the same level, that we forget that individuals have had to stand up for us just so that we can have the freedoms that we currently have. Whilst we're getting better, we're also buildi

Strictly the Professionals - Dance Saturday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, Strictly starts today and I just wanted to talk about some of the amazing professional dancers that made the show possible. A week ago, Strictly the Professionals aired on the BBC and it talked about how each dancer got to where they are today. They showed video clips from when they were young competition dancers. Janette sent a video clip of her dancing, to a stage school, to pay for her lessons in dance. AJ began dancing at his parent's ballroom dance school. Karen went to a contemporary dance school in New York, before specialising in ballroom and Latin. Kevin and Joanne Clifton, started dancing at their parent's ballroom dance school, as well. What I found really interesting was that when Kevin auditioned for Strictly, his partner at the time Karen, got in but Kevin did not. He said it was due to his Gothic look at the time. Haha😂. However, he got other small jobs on Strictly, before eventually becoming a pro-dancer.

Representation and sheep - Writing Wednesday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, I've just been thinking about this recently, as I've noticed it's something that a lot of people do. In school and in the outside world, we're constantly told about representation. We're constantly told about being a role model to others and being an inspiration to those who do not yet believe in themselves. Personally, I think that's brilliant because it makes people stand up and take responsibility for those who don't have a voice. However, I do think that it can go too far because at the end of the day, we're all going to be different and one person does not speak for all. Just like a king or queen that used to make decisions on the behalf of everybody without even consulting them. They did not speak for all, like a feminist doesn't speak on behalf of all women. It's also fair enough, if you as the listener, have educated yourself on why you choose to follow a leader's values. If you

Are you a morning person or a night owl? - Lifestyle Monday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, Just thought I'd answer a fun, random question. Am I a morning person or a night owl?  Sometimes, I think that I'm a morning person because the night before a school day, I can be motivated and raring to get the next day started. However, when I get up the next day, it can be a very different story. 😂😂 Especially on a Monday morning, I often wake up to the sound of my alarm, and I will still think that its the weekend.  However on other days, the night before, I would be not very motivated or excited to begin the next day but when I wake up in the morning the next day, I think differently. Most of the time, it can vary. Although, in terms of what time I work best at, it will probably be the morning. My sister, when she was doing her GCSEs, she would often do most of her revision when I was going to bed because that's the part of the day where she had the most amount of time and when she worked best at. However for me

Dance diary 2019 (no.1) - Dance Saturday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, We're beginning to plan out what we're doing in dance at school. Firstly, the end of year show is going to be based on A Chorus Line, the audition segment. We're hoping to do a jazz section, a street dance section, and a ballet section. We're currently beginning the jazz section with the whole class. We watched a clip from the film, A Chorus Line, and decided to work on a particular section. It was very quick and fast as it consisted of of many kicks, taps, and transitions of weight. However, it was only the beginning of the routine so we have to get used to many more fast sequences of movement in the future. Some of will also be selected to do the ballet section which is going to be a lot more technical than the others. If I get offered to do this, I will give it a go, as I think that it would be a good exercise of technique and it is also good to get in involved in something extra. I also hope to be involved in

Endurance - Writing Wednesday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, It's difficult to know where to begin with this post. In life, there are always going to be challenges and most of the time, they're not going to be necessarily easy to deal with. You'll want to achieve a lot in life, but you'll always find a counteracting force, that is always not on your side. You'll try and view life as a big empty canvas, where you can paint your vision of the future, but that vision can be blocked by a clouding of uncertainty because that counteracting force is always going to be there. When you stumble on a bad day, you try and make it a good day, but the very thought of that day beginning as bad can lead you into thinking that the whole day is going to be bad. It's very easy to believe that with ambition, you'll get anywhere in life, but that's not always the case. In my opinion, I believe that everyone has ambition. Even the people who are stuck on what to do and are drifti

What inspires me - 1 Year To Get To College (post 2) - Lifestyle Monday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, Recently, I started year 11 and as I'm sure many of you will all know, it's the final year of secondary school in the UK. So far, the stress hasn't been that bad because I've managed to keep on top of things and its only been 4 days. However, exams are approaching in November and I've already begun my revision to ensure that I keep information fresh in my mind, ready for the mocks. Not going to lie, that's going to need to require some will power and strength because doing a load of revision well and properly, is one thing but being able to continue doing it everyday, is a completely different story.  Consequently, I've tried to think of something that inspires me and motivates me to keep going and keep up the consistent revision process. Now, I've read countless books on history and famous influential people like Malala Yousafzai and Anne Frank, as well as watching insanely good films, like Invi

What becoming a performer really entails - Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, and Madonna - Dance Saturday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, There are many places that the performing arts industry can take you. Whilst the dance department plays a heavy part in becoming someone to be remembered, there are many other things that can make up becoming a performer. A triple fret artist is someone who does singing, dancing, and acting. This makes up a big part of a performer's career. Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, and Madonna can all be considered triple fret artists because they can do all these things. However, one minority section that is always forgotten about is, what are triple fret artists remembered for? The major transition, but one that is always forgotten about, between a triple fret artist and a performer is the persona a performer is remembered for. A triple fret artist can be just a versatile dancer that has the capacity to do acting and singing to take their dancing career to the next level by being in dance films or musicals. Equally, a triple fret

Targets for this new school year - 1 Year To Get To College (post 1) - Writing Wednesday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, Today, I'll be beginning one of my many posts for my new blogging series, A Year To Get To College. As many of you will probably know by now is that I am entering my final year of secondary school and yesterday was my first day back. I know that this year in secondary school can be a particularly stressful one for many and many can suffer quite badly from that stress and get anxious, which is perfectly natural but I just wanted to give you some help and advice on how to deal with certain things, as well as sharing with you some of the happy moments and the things that I was particularly proud of. I won't be posting every Wednesday and maybe I'll switch up the days sometimes but I'll be posting when I think it's appropriate and when I think it's the right time to give advice to everyone. I'll be taking this series through my mocks, final exams and my final piece in dance, all the way through to results d

Back to School Haul 2019 - Lifestyle Monday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, It's September, and school is fast approaching, which meant that I needed to get some more stationary. Especially entering my final year, I needed to get a lot of things for revision and in preparation for my mocks and final exams. All the items I bought I got from Wilko so it's all at a really affordable price. If you want to get these things, I'll leave all the links to them below for you to buy. Enjoy! The first thing I bought was an A4 gray display book which has loads of clear plastic wallets in them for me to put my notes in. I make loads of notes, especially for science a maths, so I think I'll find this really useful for my revision process and it was only £1.75. I also got two packs of ten black ballpoint pens. These pens tend to run out quickly so I wanted make sure that I had plenty in stock. I also needed to have something to accommodate for the amount of notes I make also. These were only £0.25 ea
