The evolution of internet sensations - Writing Wednesday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, Recently, I watched a video made by the YouTuber, Niomi Smart, on how she felt the internet has changed over the years. If you don't know the background of Niomi Smart, then she is basically a well-known and well-established YouTuber, who has been making videos about healthy eating, veganism, charity work, and ethical living for around 8 or 9 years now. She graduated from university with a law degree but she initially started a blog to voice her thoughts on fashion and to share her popular lifestyle content with her viewers and she then grew into a successful internet sensation. She was a part of the labelled "Brit Crew" group along with Zoe Sugg, Alfie Deyes, Joe Sugg, Tanya Burr, Jim Chapman, Louise Pentland, and Marcus Butler. She also released her book, Eat Smart, in 2016 and continues to co-run her healthy food box, Sourced Box, with Marcus Butler. With over 1.5 million subscribers on her channel, she continues t...

The difference between farming animals and hunting animals- Writing Wednesday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, I've been asked about this a lot. I did a blog post a while back on trophy hunting and I received about 4 comments from someone who questioned my opinion. They asked, well if you are not okay with trophy hunting, why are you okay farming? I also had a small debate with another user on Instagram after I commented on a post informing people about hunting in Africa, saying how bad it was that we treat animals like objects instead of living beings. The user asked a similar question, well if you are not okay with hunting animals in Africa, why are you okay farming? Understandably, this is a question people want to ask and perhaps I didn't explain myself properly before hand, so I'm going to explain my opinion now. To be honest, we can technically farm animals in Africa and kill them for their meat or for their ivory. That way, we get what we want and we dont kill off the species. However, we're farming enough meat as i...

My message to vegans - Behind the glamorous Mediterranean - Writing Wednesday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, I recently sat down and watched Simon Reeve's documentary on the Mediterranean with my mum and my sister and was shocked by what I saw. The journey of the migrants crossing over Ceuta, the busiest shipping lanes injuring passing dolphins, and the amount of plastic that fishermen dig up from the bottom of the seabed is just horrendous. But what is more shocking to me is how ignorant we are about this one particular subject. It made me realise that in the grand scheme of things, nothing is cruelty free. On one of his trips, Simon visited greenhouses that grow and cultivate the majority of our fruits and vegetables. The workers were all migrants that had crossed over from neighbouring Africa. These greenhouses are made up of large plastic sheets - a cheap but successful alternative used in mass production of our produce. These greenhouses provide the work migrants need to survive and although the business is successful, it...

The brown rice moment + our weird obsession to cure things-Why I dislike veganism

Hi guys, welcome back to my blog,  So, I know you're probably thinking Juju what the hell are you going to talk about today? 'The brown rice moment?' Really? Well, let me explain. It was a few nights ago when we sat down to have our dinner. My grandmother came round over the half term and she suggested that we should try brown rice. Not going to lie, this was exactly what she said 'brown rice is delicious!' So there we were, at the table, with a pot of brown rice in front of us. Well, it was brown, duh and stodgy like porridge. We served up the rest of our food and started to eat. Well, to put it bluntly, it was disgusting. But was I going to let that show. Phh, no! So I said, 'it's very different'. I could tell my mum hated it when the exact words 'it's very nutty' came out her mouth.  So come the end of the meal, my dad blurted out 'yeah, let's not have that again'. Then straight away, me,my sister and my mum said 'yeah, th...
