His Dark Materials review - Lifestyle Monday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,

 Recently, I've been watching the new BBC series called, His Dark Materials. I believe that this was originally a book by Phillip Pullman, which was eventually made into this new series. Ever since the end of the amazing series, Merlin, me and my family have been desperately trying to find another period piece that would match up to it. Firstly it was Atlantis but that didn't go the way the producers wanted it to go so there was this long period where there wasn't really a good series to watch. However recently, there has been the Welsh series, Keeping Faith, that has been really popular, and now His Dark Materials. Let me tell you, it is so good. At first, you think that the plot is a bit weird because it's set in the past but there's sort of elements of fantasy involved. Then, as you go through the story, the plot builds and you get more involved in each character's story. Each character has this sort of spirit that is always with them which is called a daemon and it is in the form of any animal and it changes until you come of age. When you come of age and you've matured, your spirit settles as one animal. On a celebration of the coming of age, a teenage boys brother, Billie Costa, goes missing. A boy named Roger, whose friends with the main character, Lyra, also goes missing and is taken away by these people known as the Gobblers. The whole scene is basically set off of that and there's much more involved as Lyra's uncle, found a city of dust in the sky, as he investigated the relationship between light and dust on his travels to the North. The plot is amazing and you can tell that the producers really took their time on everything, even the special effects. It's really one to watch, even if you haven't read the book like I have.

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, Victorian Britain was, as many would say, unfair,cruel and harsh. It is a fact that women were discriminated in the sense that they did not have a voice or the power to act on problems in society. Victorian Britain and other countries too, were very patriarchal. This is particularly apparent during the life of Charlotte Bronte.  On the 21st of April 1816 was the birth of Charlotte Bronte.  In her early life, Charlotte dedicated her life to teach children and her family. She returned to Haworth where her sister's opened a school but failed to get students. Therefore, she and her sister's turned to writing.  She and her sister's hid their true identities. Charlotte concealed her name under the pseudonym Currer Bell in a bid to sell her books.  They believed that concealing their names under a male identity would get their books to sell. The IB dance mock exam - Dance Saturday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,  On the last Friday before the half term holiday, I'm going to be doing an IB dance mock exam. This mock exam will consist of me coming up with my own choreography that I will perform as a solo piece in front of my teacher. It's not going to be as formal of an examination as the rest of the exams that I'm going to be sitting but it's still a pretty big deal since I am still going to get awarded a grade at the end of it.  My day on Friday will begin at 9:00am and for the first part of the day, I will be working on my solo and coming up with the choreography. I think for the rest of the day we will be spending some time catching up on some theory and working on writing up the rest of our dance investigation as part of our coursework. Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, Recently, my mum told me to take a look a Mel Robbins's work because she talks a lot about human psychology. If you don't know her story, Mel Robbins was a well-known TV show host on American channels like CNN and has now become a motivational influencer on the internet. She faced a lot of financial difficulty trying to pursue her career in the TV and entertainment industry and this caused her marriage to become unstable and eventually she became severely depressed. This was to the point when she even struggled to get out of bed in the morning. After releasing her book, the 5 Second Rule which motivated her to get up out of bed every morning, Mel Robbins now inspires other people with mental health issues.
