All about: Alyson Stoner - Dance Saturday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,

Today, I'm going to be talking about Alyson Stoner for my last All about:____ post and I'm really happy that I get to talk about her today because she is really amazing!

Born in Toledo, Ohio, Alyson Stoner is a well-known TV actress, singer, and an amazing dancer who's starred in the movies Camp Rock as Caitlyn Geller, Garfield as Kid Rat, and the Step Up movie franchise as Camille. She released her debut single, Flying Forward, in 2010 and her debut EP, Beat The System, in 2011 and became a popular triple threat artist featuring in Kurt Hugo Schneider's music videos and hosting shows on Disney channel.

As a young girl, Alyson studied ballet, tap, and jazz dance at the O'Connell's Dance Studio, where she first embarked on her career in dance. However, Alyson also had a strong passion for modelling and so she also began her training in that sector at the Margaret O'Brien Modelling Studio, where she was able to win the Best Model of the Year award at one of O'Brien's many modelling conventions.

As well as starring in many Disney channel shows in 2001, Alyson also appeared in the first Step Up movie in 2006 as Channing Tatum (Tyler's) younger foster sister, Camille. In the first film, she was portrayed as a young girl from a poor family, who's following her older brother's footsteps in dance. However, she became one of the main characters in the Step Up 3D movie, where she returned to her role as a teenager pursuing a more professional career in dance and their she danced alongside her film partner Adam Sevani, who played the character of Moose, an avid street/freestyle dancer. The two had excellent connection in their dancing and for me, I really enjoyed watching Alyson perform street dance because she was really strong in that style, despite learning other more technical forms of dance as well like jazz and ballet. Step Up really showed Alyson's skills because she was a back-up dancer for singers like Will Smith and OutKast and there she was dancing quite a few street commercial routines so this portrayal of her was really nice to see in the film as well.

My favourite routine starring Alyson Stoner was the strong hip hop routine that she did to We Can't Back Down in the musical film, Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. Here, she danced alongside singer Demi Lovato, who played the main role of Mitchie Torres, and Demi's character was trying to uplift her group of performers who were unsure that they would beat their rivals, Camp Star, in The Final Jam. I really liked this routine because it's so uplifting even for the audience watching and Alyson's musicality in the piece is really amazing. If you can't see her, Alyson is seen in the background wearing a grey tank top and pink skirt. Her dancing does stand out a lot!

I also really liked the dancing that Alyson did in Kurt Hugo Schneider's music videos to Maroon 5's Maps and Selena Gomez's Same Old Love. Kurt is a music producer and a filmmaker who is quite into making innovative music videos for his YouTube channel and other social media platforms so he often likes to invite dancers and triple threat artists to perform in these videos because they can bring singing, dancing, and acting. Alyson Stoner was one of his many featured artists and she did a dance with singer MAX, where they promoted Just Dance on the Wii by doing one of the routines on the game to Maps by Maroon 5. It was filmed in one single take and hit millions of views. The dance that Alyson did to Same Old Love by Selena Gomez with singer Sam Tsui in it, was also really successful. I liked it because it was upbeat, creative, and fun to watch as well!

I think what I like most about Alyson Stoner is her ability to incorporate her dancing with many other art forms. Not only is she a great stand-alone dancer, she also dances whilst singing and she also dances whilst she's also acting and that is very prevalent in the way she performs on Step Up, Camp Rock, and many of the popular music videos that she's featured in. This brings a whole different level to the way that she dances. We've seen people like Briar Nolet and Myles Erlick tell amazing stories through dance by using their emotion primarily but Alyson also tells stories through dance by incorporating different mediums of the performing arts together and I think it's just as effective.  This is why she's changed the way we look at dance because it isn't about just being great at dance, it's also about being creative and using everything you see around you and putting it together in an amazing piece!

Hope you enjoyed this post! It's the last one in the series and I hope it was a great finish!
