Who are the oppressors? - Writing Wednesday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,

We are fast becoming the age where blame is a common occurrence. We blame each other because when we face up to the actual problem, it seems like a big mountain that we have to climb. A prime example of this is when we blame others for their acts on allegedly doing nothing for the environment. When the general public looks at the fast-growing fossil fuel industry, the first thing most people think about is how bad it is for the environment. When people look at the pressures that face the meat and dairy industry, they think about how terrible it is for the environment. When people think about the growth of capitalism, they think how bad it is that they're are supporting something that destroys the environment. I can go on and on about these things where the environment is talked about but we'd probably be here a long time. The basic fact of the matter is, we've been putting blame on others since the 50s, when people started talking about climate change as a problem and look at how far it's got us. If putting blame on others worked, climate change would not be called a crisis. We cannot continue to scapegoat each other like Hitler did in the huge economic crisis of the Great Depression. The same principles apply. When everything fails, the harsh truth still remains, that we are all the oppressors. I can always say that global warming is terrible yet I also rely on the fossil fuel industry to have the simple needed electricity to charge my phone. I can look at how intensely used the farming industry is but I do not produce food self-sufficiently. I can look at maybe how capitalism has fuelled these intense practices but their are people dying in Communist countries like China, and I'm not doing anything about it. If we want to make an effective long-lasting change, we cannot stand apart, we must co-operate. Through co-operation, things like palm oil, are slowly not finding their way into every single item in our supermarkets. Big businesses have worked with certain organisations, to help bring about a change, where existing palm oil plantations are used for items we need, so that no new trees are cut down. Through co-operation, young engineers like Boyan Slat, have come up with new ways to clean up our ocean's from plastic, without using energy to do so. Through co-operation, we can achieve far more than we would have ever dreamed of. Why shouldn't we do that?
