My top 10 favourite Christmas movies 2019 - Blogmas day 5

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,

I did a blog post a couple years ago like this where I went through my top 3 Christmas movies. This year, there have been so many more Christmas movies coming out that I just have to talk about them. There are also a bunch more that I like from the past that I shall be talking about today. Enjoy!
  • My top favourite Christmas movie that has come out this year has got to be Last Christmas. I've talked about this movie previously, in my blog post called "Going to see Last Christmas + a fun day out with my mum." I shall not dwindle on it too long but I really like this movie because it isn't too cheesy and I feel like even someone who doesn't like Christmas movies that much, will still like it. It's a bit like a rom-com, in the sense that there's romance and comedy but everything is really balanced out. I especially like the ending of the I movie, as it gives me sort of Jack Frost type of vibes. I'm not going to give much away but the clues in the title of the popular Wham song, "I gave you my heart."

But things soon take a turn for the better when she meets Tom -- a handsome charmer who seems too good to be true. As the city transforms into the most wonderful time of the year, Tom and Kate's growing attraction turns into the best gift of all -- a Yuletide romance.

Universal Pictures

  • My next favourite Christmas movie is the Princess Switch with Vanessa Hudgens. The story line is quite simple as it's about a girl who runs a bakery and gets accepted into a baking competition, where she meets an identical long-distant relative of royal blood. They then switch lives and end up living that life permanently as they find that it's the lives they've always dreamed of living. I found this film last year and although it's your classic Christmas film, I feel like it's exactly the sort of thing you'd watch on a Sunday afternoon.  It's got some elements of romance and some elements of humour but it's an overall great film to watch when you feel like doing nothing.

Netflix

  • I've mentioned this film before but I've just got to mention it again because it's just become a classic. Honestly if you have not watched Elf before then I genuinely don't know what you're doing with your life because it's great. Like any other Christmas movie, the plot is really dumb but that's what makes it kind of funny. It's about a human, called Buddy, who was brought up as an Elf in Santa's workshop. One day, his elf father reveals who his real father is, and buddy goes looking for him in New York. It's funny because his dad's on the naughty list and he hates Christmas so you can literally see him on the cusp of anger, every time Buddy is positive or does something ignorantly stupid that just messes everything up.

  • My fourth favourite Christmas film has got to be Jack Frost. It is a bit sad because the snowman does melt and die in the end but along with elf, it is a classic that you've just got to watch. Jack Frost is a singer who dies in a car accident and leaves behind his young son Charlie. Charlie ends up being a sad young boy until the snowman that he builds comes to life as his father. He never spent much time with his dad before, but as a snowman, he goes on all sorts of adventures with his dad. This is honestly one of those sweet films that you've just got to watch on Christmas. It was filmed quite a while ago but I swear the story never gets old.

  • My fifth favourite Christmas movie has got to be, Deck the Halls. Again, it's got a stupid story line but it's the best film to watch once you've had your Christmas dinner on Christmas day. It's about these two houses who fight over how many Christmas lights the other family has on their house. It's so funny because they literally go to all the extremes to try and make their house visible. One family tried to make their house visible from space so they get NASA to try and find their house on a satellite image at night. It's the most hilarious thing I think I've ever watched in my life and it's definitely one of those films that I can watch again and again.

  • My sixth favourite Christmas movie is called Click and Collect. It's another movie in the comedy genre and let me tell you, it's hilarious. It's about this dad who, just like any other stereotypical dad, is really into science. Consequently, he gets his daughter who's not into science, a scientific set where you can make experiments. His wife gets annoyed because their daughter really wanted a unicorn toy. The dad searches it up and realises that there's only one left in stock so he rushes out to get the last one, along with his super positive neighbour, who has agreed to join him. It's so funny because obviously there's a lot that goes wrong along the way but it does get quite sentimental because it turns out the neighbour's only helping out because he doesn't have a lot of money to get his own daughter presents. All in all, a really good film.

BritBox

  • My next favourite Christmas film has got to be Gangsta Granny. It's a film based on David Walliams's popular book, Gangsta Granny. It's about a young boy called Ben, who thinks his granny is a bit boring until he catches her shoplifting one night and then realises that there's more to his grandmother than he thinks. They then plot to steal the crown jewels as their next adventure together. Like all of his books like the Midnight Gang and Billionaire Boy, David Walliams always finds a way to make then insanely funny and his imagination honestly baffles me. Would 100% recommend watching this.

BBC

  • My eighth favourite Christmas movie to watch is Nativity. It's about a primary school who hires a new primary school teacher and the teaching assistant there, Mr Poppy, keeps messing everything up and nearly drives out some of the teachers. Mr Poppy is supposed to be a responsible teaching a assistant but he he just acts like a big kid and in the first movie, he really struggles to get along with Mr Maddens, who is a lot more serious. The basic story is about Mr Maddens telling his friend Mr Shakespeare a lie that Hollywood will be filming their Nativity production, to make him jealous. However, Mr Poppy overhears, and starts spreading the lie, until it actually has to happen. It is hilarious and even though it's for kids, I'd still watch it because it's that funny.

  • My next favourite movie to watch at Christmas has got to be Home Alone. As I've mentioned before, the story is really dumb because it's about a family who goes on holiday for Christmas and they leave their child behind by accident. He then encounters burglars and a whole bunch of other stuff. However, it's hilarious and a classic that you just have to watch at Christmas. It really does give you that Christmas vibe every time you watch it.

  • Lastly, is The Snowman. There are two short films. The first was The Snowman and the second was The Snowman and the Snowdog. Both are equally amazing. It's just a basic animation with no words, about a boy who builds a snowman in his garden and it comes to life at Christmas. In the second film, he builds a snowdog and it too, also comes to life and eventually turns into a real dog. It's a beautiful animation and definitely one to watch on Christmas Eve.
