Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,  I had watched the Sherlock Holmes series already a couple of years ago. I went to a sleepover around my friend's house, who just lives around the corner, and she introduced me to this modern twist on the amazing Sherlock Holmes. It was only up until recently that my parents got into the series as well. I've watched a lot of the Vera series with my family and my parents like police and detective series as well so I knew that when they were going to start watching Sherlock Holmes, that they would enjoy it too. It's definitely something that you have to pay attention to when you're watching it because there are moments where Sherlock talks really fast when he's just been assessing a murder scene so you have to keep up with the story. Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, Recently I read an extract from the book Travellers in the Third Reich by Julia Boyd as a part of my historical scholarship readings group at school. It was a very interesting read and I far better enjoyed it to the previous extract about Richard the Third. I suppose it's because we can find that modern history is a lot more relatable to our time. It was also, in my opinion, far better written. It was less busy and the point of the historian was clearly set.  My favourite line was "it mattered little if you were a princess or a communist, a Nazi-lover, Nazi-hater, Swede, Sanskrit scholar or Irish nationalist. It was, as Bridget von Bernstorff put it, 'utter hell.'" This suggests that although we may like to think that it mattered that everyone was a loyal and committed Nazi in Germany at the time, everything was so messed up that political views didn't matter anymore. Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, On Friday, I went to this history club at school where you pick up an extract of any historical book on the topic you're learning about and find out more about the people who lived at the time. In history, we're currently learning about the Berlin wall and Germany's split after the defeat of Hitler and the Nazis in the Second World War. Consequently, the extract I picked up at lunch was about a 16 year old girl, who tried to scale the Berlin wall from the East side and I thought it would be a good idea to talk about it here on my blog today. Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, We all know the famous diary by Anne Frank known as "The Diary of a Young girl." The diary that showed Jewish isolation and separation in Nazi occupied areas. Anne Frank went into hiding with her family when her sister, Margot, got a disguised letter sending her to a work camp. Unfortunately, the Franks were captured by the Gestapo. Separated from their family, Anne and her sister died of disease.  Anne's story is no doubt sad but we tend to hear a lot about the people who didn't survive. What about the people who did? Helga was a young Jewish,Czech girl who grew up in Prague. During the Nazi occupation, Helga's family were given a letter stating that they must leave their beloved apartment. It is a fact that women were discriminated in the sense that they did not have a voice or the power to act on problems in society. Victorian Britain and other countries too, were very patriarchal. This is particularly apparent during the life of Charlotte Bronte.  On the 21st of April 1816 was the birth of Charlotte Bronte.  In her early life, Charlotte dedicated her life to teach children and her family. She returned to Haworth where her sister's opened a school but failed to get students. Therefore, she and her sister's turned to writing.  She and her sister's hid their true identities. Charlotte concealed her name under the pseudonym Currer Bell in a bid to sell her books.  They believed that concealing their names under a male identity would get their books to sell.
