The story of Lance Armstrong - Writing Wednesday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,  I know that this post is probably going to immediately frustrate some people just by even reading the title. However, I thought that it would be interesting to voice Lance's side of the huge scandal that he was involved in because I think that it broadcasts a much larger message than just that he was selfish and completely lost the dignity of his fans. It voices some of the crude truths that go on behind the scenes when athletes train and you soon realise then that the sportsmanship and the camaraderie that is supposedly what formulates events like the Tour de France and even the Olympics, is not what formulates them at all. Instead they have become epicentres for drugs related issues in sports and pretty much anything that questionably enhances the performance of athletes because unhealthy competition now overrides the value of representing the sport. So yes, Lance was a manipulator and is probably one of the biggest liars to...

Endurance - Writing Wednesday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, It's difficult to know where to begin with this post. In life, there are always going to be challenges and most of the time, they're not going to be necessarily easy to deal with. You'll want to achieve a lot in life, but you'll always find a counteracting force, that is always not on your side. You'll try and view life as a big empty canvas, where you can paint your vision of the future, but that vision can be blocked by a clouding of uncertainty because that counteracting force is always going to be there. When you stumble on a bad day, you try and make it a good day, but the very thought of that day beginning as bad can lead you into thinking that the whole day is going to be bad. It's very easy to believe that with ambition, you'll get anywhere in life, but that's not always the case. In my opinion, I believe that everyone has ambition. Even the people who are stuck on what to do and are drifti...

What we should be cautious of when entering this climate emergency- Writing Wednesday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, Recently, as more and more people are becoming aware, the public have been standing up for change in the way in which we are handling this climate change crisis. It's always been a worry for a lot of people to ensure that we are being as environmentally friendly and kind to our planet as we possibly can be. However, in the last few years, as many scientists have been predicting that we may only have 10 years left to truly make a difference to our environment, people as young as youths have been passively revolting for change in the way their parliament deal with this issue. The famous Youth Strike for Climate Change, founded by 16 year old environmental activist Greta Thunberg, got children and teens all over the world  gathering together to give up a day of school to protest against the way things are currently done. I personally really like this new initiative and I think that it's really refreshing to see people of a...

The difference between farming animals and hunting animals- Writing Wednesday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, I've been asked about this a lot. I did a blog post a while back on trophy hunting and I received about 4 comments from someone who questioned my opinion. They asked, well if you are not okay with trophy hunting, why are you okay farming? I also had a small debate with another user on Instagram after I commented on a post informing people about hunting in Africa, saying how bad it was that we treat animals like objects instead of living beings. The user asked a similar question, well if you are not okay with hunting animals in Africa, why are you okay farming? Understandably, this is a question people want to ask and perhaps I didn't explain myself properly before hand, so I'm going to explain my opinion now. To be honest, we can technically farm animals in Africa and kill them for their meat or for their ivory. That way, we get what we want and we dont kill off the species. However, we're farming enough meat as i...

How to handle negative people, motivational Monday- Lifestyle Monday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, There have been so many times in my life where I've felt beaten down by someone or a group of people. Especially being a dancer, you've got to have a thick skin because otherwise you can become very feeble against people. Quite recently, I went on a dance trip to Manchester. I really 100% enjoyed my time there and for the most part, people were really nice and I loved the positive morale the students at Manchester had on me. However, I couldn't stop sensing a little bit of jealousy with this one girl who went on the trip.  After executing a contemporary routine really well, I could tell she was annoyed because she picked out every little thing that I supposedly said wrong. For example, since we were doing a commercial workshop with one of our professional dancers at the school next, I said "i'm really excited about the street workshop," and the girl's response to this was "it's actually no...

David Attenborough's Dynasties says a lot about how we act as humans- Writing Wednesday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, I recently sat down and watched Dynasties by David Attenborough with my mum and my sister. The most recent episode was on lions and what they must do in order to survive and bring up their young. The episode before that was on the harsh life that the emperor penguin must endure. It was definitely hard to watch! The first episode, however, was on chimpanzees. This episode I found the most relatable in how we act as human beings. As humans, we have quarrels and fights and even wars. None of them are obviously nice but they're harsh ways to sort out who is the fittest and strongest. When I watched the very first episode, there were two groups of chimps. One owned a huge patch of land whilst the other was rapidly trying to take over that land. They ended up getting into fights and the leader of the group ended up getting seriously injured. The leader even got separated. However, it was the way he bounced back that struck me. He l...

The cotton industry and its effects on our planet- Writing Wednesday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, Recently, I watched a documentary called Fashion's Dirty Secrets with Stacey Dooley and I was shocked by what I had seen. We constantly talk about the effects of plastic on our environment but little do we know that cotton has a large impact on our planet too. If we are globally producing 100 billion new garments from new fibres every year, our planet will simply not be able to handle the impact-as Stacey Dooley quoted. So what is the damage? Here are a few examples. BBC Three Back in the 60s, the Aral Sea in Kazakhstan, covered 68,000 sq km. It was known as one of the biggest inland seas in the world with a full ecosystem and attracting loads of tourists. However, it has shrunk dramatically due to the cotton production. Stacey drove for 3 hours on what once was the seabed. This catastrophe is all down to the fact that we can use up to 15,000 litres of water to grow cotton to make one pair of jeans. Another big issue lies ...

Why can't people use direct language?

Hello Jujubears and welcome to another blog post, Today I am going to be talking about direct language. Now, I don't mean overly direct to the point when everything you say is literal but I just mean say it how it is. For example, today I was learning about euthanasia in RE. Now, instead of saying euthanasia is when someone wants to die, the RE teacher said that it's when someone wants to end their life. I really do not understand why people are so frightened to say die when surely in a case like euthanasia, that's what the person wants and feels like. Let's take another example. Soldiers from the first world war used to come back with a mental disease called shell shock. This was and is due to the intensity of the fighting and the war in general. What I don't understand is why people now call it posttraumatic stress disorder (PSD). That phrase does not tell people what it's really like to be in that mental state. So why do we use indirect language? Comment ...
