The best quality you can have in a friend - Lifestyle Monday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, As I'm going to sixth form very soon, I thought it would be a good idea to write a post on the topic of friends as I'm sure I'll be getting to know a whole range of different people when I go back to school.  Although there are a few people that I know who will be going to my new school, not many of my friends have chosen to go to the same sixth form as I have so this can only mean that I will have to make some new friends in the new school term. I'm quite excited because it's a new start and I'm sure I'll meet a lot of people with similar interests to me and I'm sure I'll soon end up with a group of people who I will hang out with the most.  However, after hanging out with a range of different people during my 5 years at secondary school, I've developed a better understanding of the types of people I would want to hang out with. When someone asks me what the best quality you can have in a fr...

GCSE results day 2020 - 1 Year To Get To College (Post 21) - Lifestyle Monday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, Today, I'm going to be talking about how results day went this year for year elevens. This is going to be my 21st and last post in my 1 Year To Get To College series. Sorry there was a bit of a mix up in the number of posts I was up to because I wasn't really counting after a while but I'm glad this series is ending on a high! I can't believe it's basically been a year since I started this series. You can check out all of my 1 Year To Get To College posts here to see how I've been getting on with my whole GCSE year, with school and Covid-19. There have been a lot of memories made! It was a bit of a stressful time this year because of the outbreak of the Coronavirus. I couldn't do my exams because it was a risk to do that at the time and I had to do homeschooling for most of the exam period so the events that followed from March were certainly unprecedented. It was difficult to get used to the idea of fi...

How far away are we from reality? - Writing Wednesday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,  Over the years, I have become a big fan of Ben Fogle's New Lives in the Wild documentary, where he visits people who have given up the usual rat race of life, to start living in the wild pretty much self-sufficiently. If you don't know who Ben Fogle is, he is an adventurer turned TV-show host who, before he began filming his New Lives in the Wild documentary, did many crazy explorations across the world. One of his famous explorations was where he sailed the entire length of the Atlantic Ocean alongside his partner, James Cracknell. I remember reading about this scary adventure during an English exam where we were given an extract of Ben's documented story. I found it crazy how his boat capsized many times and he still managed to cross the entire length of the Atlantic Ocean. Despite failing his A-level exams, Ben has managed to accomplish this as well as reaching the top of Mount Everest in 2018. He is a true inspirat...

Diary entry: Sixth form, Tiffany's Theatre College, and revision! - 1 Year To Get To College (Post 10) - Writing Wednesday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,  It's a couple weeks into the term and there's already quite a lot to think about. Today, I found out that one of my two sixth form applications was acknowledged and the other was still being sent to the provider. This most likely means that interviews are coming up, where sixth forms will ask questions about you and you have to tell them all the things you like doing and what you're good and bad traits are, etc. I'm not nervous at all for these. If anything I'm quite excited because it will be an excellent chance to talk about myself and to promote my talents. I'm hopefully going to mention my blog to them, since I'm hoping to take English as one of my courses in sixth form. However, I'm still very much on the fence about where I want to go, to be honest. I had it in my head for so long that I wanted to go to this quite competitive college but after a conference day that we had about post 16, I re...

Watching Gareth Malone's Aylesbury Prison choir documentary - Lifestyle Monday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, I truly believe that the choirmaster himself, Gareth Malone, has a way of bringing people together. Not only does he get people to sing in harmony, but he also gets them to act in harmony. I watched the spectacular performance he did with Watford General Hospital at Christmas, where he promoted the amazing nurses and people who have worked tirelessly for their patients and children; the end performance was so beautiful that I think it made people with even the strongest of hearts, cry. It may not be your usual method of cooperation but I think there's truly something therapeutic behind music and singing that Gareth has managed uncover.  In contrast to this, I watched his second documentary, where he tried to get the supposedly "reckless" youth of Aylesbury Prison to sing. I was shocked and perhaps not quite as sympathetic to the young offenders at first because I immediately learnt of the crimes they'd committ...

What is dance really about? - Dance Saturday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, I know that I was supposed to write a review of the Greatest Dancer for today but I think that I'm going to move that to next week because I really want to talk about something that I think is really meaningful. As much as I love dance, I do feel as though the meaning of dance has changed over the years and that people nowadays are doing dance for different reasons. In the past, dance was based a lot more around creativity and a different way to express how you feel about something. I think that tap dance was actually a style performed on the streets, where the dancers would literally attach pieces of metal to the soles of their shoes and create a completely different way of moving. Now, we see this form of dance on Broadway musicals like Chicago, where the style is now associated with class and elegance. I think that it's completely natural that things change as everything has to evolve with it's time, in order to be...

Endurance - Writing Wednesday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, It's difficult to know where to begin with this post. In life, there are always going to be challenges and most of the time, they're not going to be necessarily easy to deal with. You'll want to achieve a lot in life, but you'll always find a counteracting force, that is always not on your side. You'll try and view life as a big empty canvas, where you can paint your vision of the future, but that vision can be blocked by a clouding of uncertainty because that counteracting force is always going to be there. When you stumble on a bad day, you try and make it a good day, but the very thought of that day beginning as bad can lead you into thinking that the whole day is going to be bad. It's very easy to believe that with ambition, you'll get anywhere in life, but that's not always the case. In my opinion, I believe that everyone has ambition. Even the people who are stuck on what to do and are drifti...

What becoming a performer really entails - Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, and Madonna - Dance Saturday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, There are many places that the performing arts industry can take you. Whilst the dance department plays a heavy part in becoming someone to be remembered, there are many other things that can make up becoming a performer. A triple fret artist is someone who does singing, dancing, and acting. This makes up a big part of a performer's career. Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, and Madonna can all be considered triple fret artists because they can do all these things. However, one minority section that is always forgotten about is, what are triple fret artists remembered for? The major transition, but one that is always forgotten about, between a triple fret artist and a performer is the persona a performer is remembered for. A triple fret artist can be just a versatile dancer that has the capacity to do acting and singing to take their dancing career to the next level by being in dance films or musicals. Equally, a triple fret...

Choosing the right path - Writing Wednesday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,  Yesterday, my friend Aline who is from Holland, came to stay around ours for a week. She arrived from the airport late in the afternoon and her and her aunt decided to stay for dinner. We had a barbeque with chicken and roasted vegetables and it was delicious. While we were eating, we had a conversation about what we wanted to do in the future. My sister Alice, was saying that she wanted to continue doing art after her A-levels but there's so many things that you can do with art that it would be difficult for my sister to choose. My mum suggested going on a gap year abroad so that she can figure it out but she is still unsure about what to do. Aline was the same because she wants to continue doing something with science but there can be so much to choose from when you're taking on that path. I however, have kind of an idea about what I want to do in the future. After doing my work experience placement at my old dance stu...

How did my first week of work experience go? - Dance Saturday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, This week, I did a work experience placement at my old dance studio. It was a lot of fun. I got to choreograph a contemporary routine, a ballet routine, and I even taught a samba routine to the students. At first, I choreographed the contemporary routine to Sia's song Bird Set Free but when I arrived at the studio, they didn't have the song so I ended up doing it to Dangerous by David Guetta. If you follow me on Instagram, you'll have probably seen the routine on my stories (I'll link it below). It worked beautifully and the students really enjoyed the routine and they wanted to add it to the show. I also taught a ballet routine to the song Rainbow from the movie Ballerina, to 4-5 year olds. A few of the found it difficult but the ones who were more advanced in ballet picked it up quickly and they all really enjoyed it in the end. On Wednesday, I taught samba to a group of 9-12 year olds during their tap class. Th...

What sixth form colleges I'm hoping to go to for dance - Dance Saturday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, Recently, I've been going to a lot of taster days and taster sessions for all the different sixth form colleges that I want to go to. Next year in September, I'll be in year 12 so I'm looking for colleges now so that I'm ready for September next year. The first college I visited was kind of awkward to get to because my dad had to drive me there and the bus took too long to get there. That was an important thing for me to bare in mind because if I was to go there next year, it would take quite a while so the college would have to be really good for me to go there. However, I didn't actually like the college as much as I thought I would because they said that they specialised in dance and all they talked about was politics and how great their school council was so that kind of put me off. The next college I visited was in the centre of town and it held an open evening so I went with my parents too. This partic...

How to stay motivated - Dance Saturday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, Today, I'm going to be giving you tips on how to stay motivated as a dancer. I'm going through not an extremely stressful time but a stressful time in the sense that I've got a dance show next Friday and I've not been in for 3 days of the commercial routine so I've missed a minute of the routine and I've only got one clean up rehearsal tomorrow at 9:30am so I have no idea how I'm going to do. This is why it's important to stay motivated so that we do not lose our focus so I decided to make this post today. Enjoy!💜❤ The first tip I have to stay motivated is to do it for yourself. You at the end of the day, have to be your biggest motivation. You cannot be trying to impress your teacher or your peers and you cannot do it because you'll get an award or something at the end of class. At the end of the day, when you step into the studio, you're trying to be the best version of yourself so i...

How to handle negative people, motivational Monday- Lifestyle Monday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, There have been so many times in my life where I've felt beaten down by someone or a group of people. Especially being a dancer, you've got to have a thick skin because otherwise you can become very feeble against people. Quite recently, I went on a dance trip to Manchester. I really 100% enjoyed my time there and for the most part, people were really nice and I loved the positive morale the students at Manchester had on me. However, I couldn't stop sensing a little bit of jealousy with this one girl who went on the trip.  After executing a contemporary routine really well, I could tell she was annoyed because she picked out every little thing that I supposedly said wrong. For example, since we were doing a commercial workshop with one of our professional dancers at the school next, I said "i'm really excited about the street workshop," and the girl's response to this was "it's actually no...
