It's all about learning to adapt to change - Lifestyle Monday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,  I think that when the end of this year comes (a) everyone will be extremely happy and (b) I'm sure we'll all realise what a year of pure change 2020 has been. There was the refreshing feeling excitement at the beginning of the year when everyone was ready to make a change in the new decade but obviously, we were all thrown off guard a lot by the pandemic that put a stop to a lot of our resolutions and because we had all grown complacent, we were pretty taken aback by everything that happened. We were not used to change and everything felt out of place for us.  Now, it's a pretty similar feeling. We are able to go back to school and work and regain some of what we lost during lockdown but we're still having to live the cliché "new normal" and it doesn't feel the same. I really like my new school and I think that it has a lot of great values but after sitting through 6 months of no school, it certainl...

GCSE results day 2020 - 1 Year To Get To College (Post 21) - Lifestyle Monday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, Today, I'm going to be talking about how results day went this year for year elevens. This is going to be my 21st and last post in my 1 Year To Get To College series. Sorry there was a bit of a mix up in the number of posts I was up to because I wasn't really counting after a while but I'm glad this series is ending on a high! I can't believe it's basically been a year since I started this series. You can check out all of my 1 Year To Get To College posts here to see how I've been getting on with my whole GCSE year, with school and Covid-19. There have been a lot of memories made! It was a bit of a stressful time this year because of the outbreak of the Coronavirus. I couldn't do my exams because it was a risk to do that at the time and I had to do homeschooling for most of the exam period so the events that followed from March were certainly unprecedented. It was difficult to get used to the idea of fi...

Cycling into town - Lifestyle Monday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,  On Wednesday, me and my sister finally cycled into Cambridge. I wasn't exactly prepared for it all as my sister sprung the idea of going when I was in the middle of having my breakfast that morning. However, I said before that this was something that I had wanted to do so after I had finished eating my breakfast, I got dressed and ready, oiled my chain, pumped up my tyres, and packed a few things for the journey. I don't know if anyone else has experienced similar issues with bicycle locks but as soon as I got my bicycle lock a few years ago, I was determined to remember the code and so I wrote it down on a piece of paper and backed it up on my phone. However, it turns out that I threw the piece of paper in the bin and I've changed phones over the years so did I remember it? Absolutely NOT! So now I have a perfectly decent bicycle lock that I can't even remember the code for! It didn't really matter anyway be...

I let stress get the better of me - 1 Year To Get To College (Post 6) - Lifestyle Monday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, I don't really know what has been the difference between these recent mock exams, in comparison to the ones in year 10, but I've been really feeling the pressure and I've found it difficult to control my nerves. I've been doing a lot of revision, online and in my revision guides and I know that deep down, I know the content for the majority of my subjects but for some reason, it literally feels like I know absolutely nothing at all. I know it's not true but this week, I did let the stress get the better of me and it really showed. I'm part French and I know my second language fluently but on my recent speaking exam, I just had a complete mind blank and I honestly felt like crying in the exam. I wasn't even stressed about the French exam, I was just stressed about everything else and I couldn't even think of a way to extend my answers further.  Long story short, I went home and I cried to my mum bec...

Endurance - Writing Wednesday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, It's difficult to know where to begin with this post. In life, there are always going to be challenges and most of the time, they're not going to be necessarily easy to deal with. You'll want to achieve a lot in life, but you'll always find a counteracting force, that is always not on your side. You'll try and view life as a big empty canvas, where you can paint your vision of the future, but that vision can be blocked by a clouding of uncertainty because that counteracting force is always going to be there. When you stumble on a bad day, you try and make it a good day, but the very thought of that day beginning as bad can lead you into thinking that the whole day is going to be bad. It's very easy to believe that with ambition, you'll get anywhere in life, but that's not always the case. In my opinion, I believe that everyone has ambition. Even the people who are stuck on what to do and are drifti...

I didn't get what I expected but that's okay - Lifestyle Monday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, As some of you may know, about a week ago, I finished all of my mock exams. I feel like I did well because I revised a lot and I was able to apply most of my knowledge from my revision, into my exam questions. However, even though I thought I did well, there were still some exam results that I wasn't particularly happy with.  Even though I worked really hard outside of lesson times, I didn't get the result that I expected for history. For me, what I found the most difficult about history, was remembering the key dates for key events. For example, on question 3 of my exam paper, it asked "recall the events of the Berlin Crisis in 1961." What put me off the most with this exam question, was what the Berlin Crisis was because I didn't know. Had I payed more attention to the date, 1961, I would have realised it was 20 years before the Berlin Wall came down and I would have written about the Berlin Wall instead...

How we are so lead by the media- Writing Wednesday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, The media can be a persuasive and manipulating place where people get drawn into the big titles and unofficial political propaganda that people are scared to say, has an impact on them. The classic example of this is Donald Trump. I'm not saying that he's the most amazing person that has ever walked this earth, but I think people have begun to believe that because he has a weird hair cut or an incredibly stupid voice, that that makes him a worse person than he actually is. I was stuck around a month ago on what to write on the subject of gun crime in my English assessment. It seemed like an easy thing to write about at first but the more I thought about it, the more I realised that it was more difficult to write about than I  thought. Not because it was necessarily a particularly difficult topic to answer, it's actually a lot simpler than we think, but when we're indoctrinated by such a one-sided perspective on ...

How to not let a single person hold you back-Writing Wednesday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, Throughout my life, especially in secondary school, I've worked out one simple piece of human psychology that i'm sure everyone who is currently reading this has already figured out. It is that we are so weak that we let others people's thoughts about us, bring us down. Sometimes it is words but the majority of the time, it's just what people think of you. It seems to seriously affect us, even me sometimes.  On Thursday, I had to leave dance early to go to parents evening and I didn't have a chance to change out of my dance clothes. I started to think about what people would think of me since I was wearing a bright red coloured ballroom dress. It wasn't a paranoid or worried thought but it was enough to make me feel weird about walking past all the people I knew. Now, looking back on it, I think it was such a stupid way of thinking but in the moment I was a bit embarrassed walking around in this brigh...

Blogmas day 3- Not my best performance :(

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, Today I woke up really happy and excited because I had my dance exam. I thought I was ready; I set up my bag,put on my street uniform, and did my hair. I then got in the car and drove to the studio with my dad. When I arrived, they checked what I was doing first and it was ballroom. However, I was dressed and ready in my street uniform. Luckily, I had arrived 30 minutes early which was what was required so I got my dress and my shoes out of my bag and went to the toilets to change. I then returned to the studio to get my number pinned to my dress. Suddenly, everyone was saying that I needed to hurry up because I was dancing next. However, my first dance was at 11:50 and it was only 11:30. However, I was told to run to the down stairs studio so I did. There I met up with my dance teacher and she was telling me what I was going to do. She said "you're doing waltz and samba" and I stupidly replied "yes" out...

Dance diary entry #2-Dance Saturday

Dance diary   18/10/18   We began class with our standard warm up which I went into more detail in my jazz strides entry.  Our focus for the lesson were jazz turns.  We did our preparations first with no practice and we found that there were things we needed to work on.  Firstly, we needed to make sure that we were not turning out like we do in ballet when we stepped out to the side  in jazz second . We had to keep our hips in the same position just moving our left leg out to the side.  Secondly, when we stepped to the back with our left foot behind and our right foot forward, we had to make sure to bend both legs.  Keeping our right leg bent, we lifted our left toe up to our right knee and with our arms in a slight circle in front of us, we had to pull up in our back.  We tended to lean forward whilst doing our turns which wasn’t correct, we had to keep low but still pull up in our back. After some practice, we did the preparations for...

We are all the product of our mistakes

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, We are all the product of our mistakes. In the past, I have made many mistakes. Like hitting my sister, throwing my sister's board game pieces on the floor, and drawing in my sister's books. But some of my mistakes were also accidental like getting a question wrong in class.  However, I for one can confidently say that I have been able to learn from my mistakes. But over the years, I have noticed that some people never learn. The product that came out of my mistakes was a better person. But the product out of some people's mistakes are worse people. I have seen countless photos on social media of people drinking underage, wearing inappropriate clothes, and even swearing.  Those are big mistakes that will affect them in the future. And they still don't learn. Many say that its because of bad parenting but when I see some people with inadequate parents, they are still good people.  It never ceases to amaze me how so...
