Rio Ferdinand's dance background - Dance Saturday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,  Recently, I watched another one of Steven Bartlett's amazing "The Diary Of A CEO" podcasts where he interviewed the famous British football player, Rio Ferdinand. A couple years ago now, I wrote a blog post on Rio Ferdinand which has now become one of my most popular posts on this blog. It was written in response to the documentary that Rio had released around that time about how he and his family were dealing with bereavement of his wife, who had died of cancer in 2015. If you would like to read about his story in more detail, you can find it here . All in all, I find Rio to be a truly inspirational soul who has overcome much adversity and many challenges to achieve his current level of success. Through listening to this podcast, I realised that Rio is a hard-working,"don't beat around the bush" kind of person and I believe that it was these attributes that allowed him to have the great experiences tha

Personal growth is a choice - Writing Wednesday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,  Modern society has now adopted a new mantra and that is "there are victims in this world and people in positions of power should help them in order to make a change." For the most part, I believe this mantra to be true. Any good, dignified human being would recognise their role in this world as a helper to others and I'm sure anyone like this would gladly sacrifice a piece of themselves and invest it in others to help mend their circumstances. Ultimately, if there were no great helpers such as the many doctors, nurses, carers, charity-givers, volunteers, and generally kind hearted individuals, society would simply not be able to function. However, there are certain circumstances where people are capable of doing their part to make a change, but choose to live off the help of others instead. I find that one's inability to take responsibility over their own lives, often creates this behaviour.  I don't wish to

It's one big sleepover! - Lifestyle Monday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, Last Friday, I invited my friends over for a sleepover after school and it was a lot of fun. If you've read my 17th birthday blog post a few months ago, you would know that my two best friends from school, Maia and Teresa, both came over to celebrate my birthday and overall we had a great time. We talked, ate amazing food, and watched super girly romantic movies!😅😅💜💜 This time my parents suggested I do something just as amazing and fun so I decided to host a sleepover. It was rather convenient for us as well because Maia and Teresa both now work at Project 21, the charity that supports people with Down's Syndrome. It's the same place that I work, so we were all able to get a lift in to work the next day. This is what we got up to. At 4:20pm, we all finished school so my mum came to pick us all up. When we arrived home, Maia and Teresa put their things upstairs in my room whilst me, my dad, and my sister began to set

Why don't we go to the circus? - Dance Saturday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, If you follow me on Instagram, you would have seen the photos on my story last Sunday from me at a circus and yes me and my family did go. Whilst I was getting my breakfast ready that Sunday morning, my mum spontaneously suggested going to the circus in the village and although it had been a long time since I had been to a circus, once we had heard the suggestion, we all jumped at the chance of going. With Covid-19 and all the lockdowns that we had this year and last, we thought it would be a fantastic idea to go and support a circus company after this challenging year and just generally have a good time whilst there weren't any restrictions. The last time a circus visited the village, I remember being very young. I recall  watching a fantastic trapeze artist and laughing continuously at the clown's jokey performance. This circus had a real modern feel to it and overall, I really enjoyed all the acts that were displayed. Th

Story time: And still no dancing! 🤦‍♀️ - Dance Saturday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,  Recently, in my dance lessons at school, we've been focusing a lot on theory so we've spent about a month now in classrooms and in computer rooms, trying to complete our IB Dance Investigation. At the beginning of 2021, when I was still in year 12, my teachers had decided to dedicate the period of online learning to researching, planning, and writing the first couple of paragraphs for the IB Dance Investigation. With me being the completely work-obsessed individual that I am, I thought that I needed to complete the first half of the work straight away, and so I immediately got down to doing it. Just before the summer holidays we had more lessons dedicated for our coursework and during the summer holidays, we were expected to have completed a large portion of our coursework so that we didn't have so much to do from September onwards. Again, with me being the unhealthily work-obsessed individual that I am, I got on with

Stacey Dooley Sleeps Over: Landed Gentry + My thoughts - Writing Wednesday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,  Recently I watched another episode of Stacey Dooley Sleeps Over and I found it rather interesting. If you are unaware of the Stacey Dooley Sleeps Over series, it's a series where Stacey stays with different families from diverse backgrounds across the country to see what modern family life has grown to be like. I have so far watched the Trad Wife, Mormon, and Orthodox Jewish family episodes but I would like to talk about the Landed Gentry episode today because I think that Stacey does bring up some good topics that I would like to explore further. In this episode, Stacey went to stay with the Arckwright family who live on a grand estate in Warwickshire. The history of the Arckwright family is quite fascinating as Johnnie Arckwright, the current owner of Hatton House, is a direct descendent of Sir Richard Arckwright, a man who made his fortunes through opening the first factory during the Industrial Revolution. Stacey went to i

Preventing chronic burnout - Writing Wednesday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,  Recently I watched a great video by Ant Middleton on preventing chronic burnout. If you are unaware of who Ant Middleton is, he is a TV show host who has a background in the Special Forces. He presented the Channel 4 TV show, SAS Who Dares Wins, where he got celebrities and ordinary individuals to take part in an SAS taster course to see who was resilient enough to survive the challenge. Ant Middleton has gotten a lot of negative press recently and his show was recently cancelled by Channel 4 after he allegedly made inappropriate comments to some of the female members on the show. However, I have always respected Ant Middleton for his confidence and his ability to give people from a variety of different backgrounds, an authentic insight into what its like being a part of the Special Forces. On the video, Ant gave some good advice from his military experience, for how to prevent yourself from losing self control in what he called &
