Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,  Today I'm going to be talking all about ZooNation and Kate Prince, in continuation with this series. Now, I've actually done a lot of research on Kate Prince's life and the ZooNation dance company when I was completing part of my coursework for BTEC dance. As I found out more about Kate and her company, I felt inspired to tell you guys about her since she isn't very well known and through what she's done, she has changed the way we look at dance and therefore deserves to be talked about today. She is the founder and artistic director of ZooNation: The Kate Prince Company, an urban, contemporary, and hip hop specialised dance company, based in London. Kate has choreographed many pieces in her own musicals and has a real eye for creative, new, and raw talent. One of her p...

All about: 1 Million Dance Studio - Dance Saturday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, I hope you're all still doing well during quarantine! It's the second post of my "All about____" series, where I talk about the dancers, choreographers, and people who have changed the way we look at dance. Last week, I talked about the Burn the Floor Dance Company so if you haven't read that already, I suggest you do because it's really interesting. You can find the link to it here . However, today I'm going to be talking about the amazing South Korean dance studio, 1 Million Dance Studio! 1 Million Dance Studio is an innovative dance center that was co-founded by Lia Kim and Timon Youn, on the 1st of December, 2014. Lia Kim is well known for her insane tutting skills and for her appearances at Urban Dance Camp and Kurt Hugo Schneider's music video to Closer, by the Chainsmokers. Whilst Timon Youn is not a dancer himself, he is very much responsible for the videography for 1 Million Dance Studio...

What is dance really about? - Dance Saturday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, I know that I was supposed to write a review of the Greatest Dancer for today but I think that I'm going to move that to next week because I really want to talk about something that I think is really meaningful. As much as I love dance, I do feel as though the meaning of dance has changed over the years and that people nowadays are doing dance for different reasons. In the past, dance was based a lot more around creativity and a different way to express how you feel about something. I think that tap dance was actually a style performed on the streets, where the dancers would literally attach pieces of metal to the soles of their shoes and create a completely different way of moving. Now, we see this form of dance on Broadway musicals like Chicago, where the style is now associated with class and elegance. I think that it's completely natural that things change as everything has to evolve with it's time, in order to be...

Getting back into dance + reviewing the Greatest Dancer 2020 - Dance Saturday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, It's January and I'm beginning to get back into the swing of things. I've started to stretch and practice in the morning. I'm particularly focusing on my tricks because I think that my dance teacher at school would like me to perform some in the street routine we're doing for the show. It's themed on Into the Hoods, which I did research on for my coursework. I published a section of it on my blog, if you would like to read it. Kate Prince, the artistic director of the production, is an interesting character and an inspiring person to read about so I would definitely recommend that you read my post on her because she has an interesting story. I think the show is one thing I'm looking forward to doing this year because since I'm in year 11 now, there's a lot more I'll be involved in and I also get to choreograph my own contemporary routine with some of my classmates so it would be a time to r...

My creative process - Lifestyle Monday

Image
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, Today, I just wanted to talk about my creative process and how I get the inspiration to come up with new dance routines and blog posts. When I went on my work experience at a nearby dance school, I think my forte was really coming up with different routines for the students. The owner of the studio, really praised me on my choreography  over anything else because I think that I have quite a creative mindset. To come up with these routines, I would often pick out the music I wanted to do the routine to, then I would start coming up with some moves in one of the empty studios. Then I would also film myself doing the routine, like the video I uploaded on my channel and on my Instagram. This really helped me to figure out what looked good and what didn't. Then, once I've tweaked a couple things, I came up with a full routine. However, when I'm writing blog posts, I usually get my ideas from just writing down something. I ...
