All about: Briar Nolet and Myles Erlick - Dance Saturday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,

I'm going to be talking about the famous modern dance duo, Briar Nolet and Myles Erlick, for today's All about:______ post.

If you don't know who Briar Nolet and Myles Erlick are, they are two very young contemporary dancers from the Canadian Dance Company, who were featured on the popular kids dance reality show, The Next Step, where they showcased their incredibly athletic duets as well as their strong and powerful solos. They have once been labelled as the two best dancers in the world and not only are they partners in the dance world but they are also a true couple in real life. They both have achieved amazing things so let's not hesitate to find out a bit more about them.

Myles Erlick was born on the 27th of July, 1998, in Burlington, Canada. He is known as a sensational talent; a triple threat artist with a natural singing voice, who also dances and acts professionally. Coming from a family of artists, he was brought up in the performance world as a child which meant that as a young teenager he was seen almost as an incredibly skilled artist, which allowed him to later be starred in the Billy Elliott musical on Broadway as well as The Next Step, where he played the role of Noah. In terms of his music career, Myles also released his first album, ME, in 2017, which received millions of views from his fans on YouTube. Now he often co-operates in many coaching sessions and master classes with his Next Step co-star and partner, Briar Nolet, where they attempt to teach the next generation of young talents.

Briar Nolet was born on the 27th of December, 1998, in Toronto, Canada. She is a dancer and actress who initially trained in gymnastics but began dancing at the age of 7, when her mum enrolled her in classes. Since the age of 12 years old, she has been competing in dance and at the age of 13 years old, she landed the role of Richelle on The Next Step. She became extremely popular after that but as her career in dance and acting was beginning to flourish, she had her first seizure in a dance class at the age of 16. She was initially misdiagnosed with anxiety but after 3 years of dealing with her serious seizures, she was diagnosed with a rare form of epilepsy that was caused by her dance training. At 19 years old, Briar competed on season 3 of NBC's World of Dance, where she attempted to regain her strength and confidence through dance on the competition. She became a finalist on the show and continues to be successful through dance, despite her epilepsy.

Kayla Mak was also on season 3 of World of Dance and I also did an All about:_____ post on her which you can read here!

This is Briar's solo routine to Ashes by Celine Dione. She also did a great routine to You Should See Me in a Crown by Billie Eilish and it was her audition piece. You should go and check that out as well. It was amazing!

One of my favourite duets from Briar and Myles is the regionals dance that they did on season 6 of The Next Step. Briar plays the character of Richelle, who has amazing technique but doesn't use enough emotion in her dancing, so when she performs her final dance with Myles (Noah), who is both technically advanced and brilliant at acting, she finally brings more of an emotional side to her dancing. The final result is an extremely beautiful ballet routine! As a dance couple, they have an excellent connection, even if they are just playing really good friends on the show. Every dance they do together is so fantastic that it always draws the audience in and that's what I like about their dancing.

The Next Step

You should also check out Noah and Richelle's James Bond themed duet to Bicicletta. It's amazing!

I think the best way to describe Briar and Myles is they are like one amazing circus act. They've got the athleticism and acrobatic quality, but they are also really smooth and majestic in their dancing so that when you're watching what they do, you're seeing more than just a dance routine, you're seeing a piece involving characterisation, on the dance floor. Even if the dance is just 2 minutes long on stage, you feel like you've watched an entire show or performance because they have the ability to look effortless and take the audience on a journey at the same time. This is why they've changed the way we view dance because they've shown that dance isn't just an impressive sport but also a way of telling a story.

I hope you enjoyed this post and reading about these two incredible dancers!
