Online Dance Competitions?? - Life After Sixth Form (Post 5) - Dance Saturday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,  Recently, I have been looking into the possible things that I could do during my gap year, which would allow me to pursue my main interests which are writing, history, and dance. At the present moment, I am still undecided as to what job I would like to get. I have been looking at a variety of different career options such as punting in Cambridge and working at historical National Trust sites in the area such as Anglesey Abbey. However, I'm unable to apply to many of them as my current focus at the moment are my finals for my IB studies and I feel the need to dedicate as much time to that as possible so that I don't have to ever come back to it again. However, I'm continuing to tweak my CV and I'm continuing to look around, just in case that magic opportunity does present itself. However, w ith regards to dance, I have been looking at a lot of things such as conventions, masterclasses, and competitions that are tak...

Ben Fogle on escaping the linear model - Life After Sixth Form (Post 4) - Lifestyle Monday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,  Personally, I find it crazy that this time next year, I will be on a completely different journey to the one that I'm currently on now. Although I don't currently know where exactly I will be and what my destination will look like, I know that I'm trying my very best to figure it out and I know that my efforts will eventually lead me to something good.  However, recently you may have noticed that I've found the process of discovering what I want to do, quite difficult. I think that I've mostly found it difficult because I'm finding that I'm being influenced by so many different people, I'm beginning to feel that my own aspirations are being lost in the conflict.  Some people genuinely want to go to university because they believe that it will give them the necessary qualifications for their chosen career or field of study.  Some people genuinely want to go to university because they believe that it ...

The future - Life After Sixth Form (Post 3) - Lifestyle Monday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,  If 5 years time began today, where do I hope that I would be? This was a question that I was asked in tutor time at school recently and it was a question that I struggled to answer. When I was younger, I'd  always pride myself on my ambitious attitude towards life and my decisiveness towards the career paths I wished of having. If I wanted to be an author,  I would read as many books as possible and write whenever I could. If I wanted to be a dancer, I would go to as many dance classes as possible and move as much as I could. In a much simpler time of my life, I would always have an ambition and a way of somehow getting there in my head. However, I've found that when it comes down to actually making the decision about where I want to go and how I want to get there, like I am doing now, I get cold feet about the future. Very soon, I will be undertaking some virtual open days at some universities and I'm finding the wh...

Your ultimate life ambition is often difficult to find - Life After Sixth Form (Post 2) - Lifestyle Monday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,  Sometimes I can be critical of other people for being directionless in life but as I'm approaching my final year of sixth form, I can understand why some people still don't know what they want to become. When I was around six years old, I would have probably thought that by now, I would have a crystal clear vision of the career I wanted to have and how I wanted to achieve it. However, I went on a walk recently with my mum around my village and we had a conversation about my future plans. As I mentioned in the last post, I was in the process of writing a personal statement for dance but my mum made me question whether dance was actually the right path. She mentioned that although anything I ultimately chose to do,  she would support, she also did not hesitate to say that the dance industry was incredibly competitive and that a minor injury could prevent me from finishing my degree. For me, this did throw a spanner into the...

Life After Sixth Form (Post 1): Creating a personal statement for dance courses - Dance Saturday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post, (Or should I say, welcome to post number 1 of Life After Sixth Form?) 😂 Yes, it feels a little bit weird talking about my future plans now for when I leave sixth form in 2022, but I thought it would be the right time to start this series as year 12 is already drawing to a close and I will be entering my final year of college in September!😬 Scary times. On this series, I will just be updating you on what I'm doing to prepare for when I leave (e.g. looking at potential plans, writing personal statements, visiting universities, taking exams, and finding out where I want to be when I graduate) and hopefully I can look back on my journey in a year's time and see how far I've come. In today's post however, I will be talking about how I'm getting on with writing my personal statement for dance courses that I could potentially apply for. Right now, I think it's still a bit up in the air about what it is that I rea...
