All about: 1 Million Dance Studio - Dance Saturday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,

I hope you're all still doing well during quarantine! It's the second post of my "All about____" series, where I talk about the dancers, choreographers, and people who have changed the way we look at dance. Last week, I talked about the Burn the Floor Dance Company so if you haven't read that already, I suggest you do because it's really interesting. You can find the link to it here. However, today I'm going to be talking about the amazing South Korean dance studio, 1 Million Dance Studio!

1 Million Dance Studio is an innovative dance center that was co-founded by Lia Kim and Timon Youn, on the 1st of December, 2014. Lia Kim is well known for her insane tutting skills and for her appearances at Urban Dance Camp and Kurt Hugo Schneider's music video to Closer, by the Chainsmokers. Whilst Timon Youn is not a dancer himself, he is very much responsible for the videography for 1 Million Dance Studio's synonymous dance YouTube channel, where they have just recently amassed over 20 million subscribers. Some of their most popular videos include May J Lee's commercial street routine to Worth It by Fifth Harmony, which has accrued over 160M views, as well as Lia Kim's also popular commercial street routine to Kurt Hugo Schneider's version of Don't Let Me Down by the Chainsmokers, which had over 33M views. Although the studio focuses mainly on hip hop and street, with their interchangeable weekly schedule, each class (that runs over a maximum of 4 classes) is dedicated solely to the choreographers individual style. This means that the dance type has the ability to change, from street to styles like contemporary, which makes it different to that of other studios.

1 Million Dance Studio

1 Million Dance Studio has a team of dedicated dance instructors that come up with their own original choreography. These instructors include: Koosung Jung, Lia Kim, Minny Park, Shawn, Tina Boo, Yoojung Lee, and Yoojin Kim. What I like about the instructors is that they work with beginner and advanced-level dancers to produce amazing routines that are of the exact same quality. If you were to watch their beginner level routines and their advanced level routines, there is very little difference to the way that they are executed, which I think is a testament to their slogan and what they stand by. 1 Million Dance Studio goes by their name as they simply want to get everyone to dance and they're doing it brilliantly. The instructors teach dance hobbyists and have also helped choreograph for famous artists like Jay Park and Girls Generation. Not only do they invite guest choreographers like We Dem Boyz and Love Ran so that their dancers get the ultimate experience, they also travel around the world to countries like America, to get everyone to stand up and dance. They embrace different cultural styles and are really uplifting in their energy to teach dance. All this has brought nothing but joy to millions of people across the world and I think that it is for this reason that they have changed the way we look at dance.

Co-founders: Lia Kim and Timon Youn
Based in: Seoul, South Korea
