Getting back into dance + reviewing the Greatest Dancer 2020 - Dance Saturday
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,
It's January and I'm beginning to get back into the swing of things. I've started to stretch and practice in the morning. I'm particularly focusing on my tricks because I think that my dance teacher at school would like me to perform some in the street routine we're doing for the show. It's themed on Into the Hoods, which I did research on for my coursework. I published a section of it on my blog, if you would like to read it. Kate Prince, the artistic director of the production, is an interesting character and an inspiring person to read about so I would definitely recommend that you read my post on her because she has an interesting story. I think the show is one thing I'm looking forward to doing this year because since I'm in year 11 now, there's a lot more I'll be involved in and I also get to choreograph my own contemporary routine with some of my classmates so it would be a time to really show my creativity. I've been also really focusing on my general flexibility as well because I'll be dancing a lyrical/contemporary routine with some other students in my class so I really need to ensure that my technique is at the same level as everyone else.
This year, I'm hoping to review some of the dances from the Greatest Dancer, series 2. I didn't watch series 1 because I wasn't entirely sure how good the show was. I wasn't sure if it was something that everyone in my family would enjoy watching but my grandmother phoned in one day and told me how good it was so i'm hoping to watch the first episode of series 2 on Saturday, when you'll be reading this. It's also got Motsi Mabuse from Strictly Come Dancing, as one of the dance captains as well and I saw the professional dancers from Strictly, doing a routine on the show and it looked amazing so i'm sure it would be great to watch. Ellie Furguson, the winner of the Greatest Dancer series 1, performed a spectacular routine on Strictly Come Dancing, so I'm sure I'll see that same level of work on this series of the show. I'll be talking about a different sort of technique than I'm used to on the Strictly reviews I did but I'm really excited to see contemporary and hip hop dancers since they're my other favourite styles of dance. I'm also really interested to see if there are any dancers who are original and different because I think that's really going to be a wow factor and what's going to get dancers ahead in the competition. Overall, I'm really excited to review this series of the Greatest Dancer!
