Is Michael Morpurgo's writing powerful?- The power of writing series
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,
Sir Michael Morpurgo was born in 1943 to his biological father, actor Tony Van Bridge and his mother, actress Catherine Noel Kippe. While Van Bridge was away fighting in WW2, his mother met and then later married Jack Morpurgo, a professor of American Literature in the University of Leeds. At the age of 19, after watching the 1962 version of Great Expectations starring his biological father, he found out that Jack was not his real father.
His first taste of stories and writing first started after he graduated from Kings College London and got employed into a Primary School as a teacher to narrate books for children.
After being inspired by his friend, philosopher, and guide, Ted Hughes, Morpurgo went on to writing "It Never Rained: Five Stories" in which he published in 1974.
His most famous books are Private Peaceful and War Horse. Both of which i've never had the chance to read. However, my favourite books by him are Cool and Listen to the Moon. They are both admittedly sad stories but it isn't because they're sad that makes them powerful. I have read Helga's diary and The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank and they are both very good because they are true stories. I often find that when authors try to write a fictional books based on true stories, they can feel unreal and that's because the audience cannot connect with the character. Michael Morpurgo is very good at putting the reader into the perspective of the character or characters. This connection is what makes his writing powerful.
