Improvements for Mike and Katya, and things Emma and Anton struggle on and do well on - Dance Saturday
Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,
I've been assessing every dancer's performance for a while now and there's a couple people I wish to talk about. Mike and Katya have been in the dance-off a lot now and somehow, they always get through, which is great. However, I think if they want to stay out of the dance-off, I think there are improvements to be made. With Emma, she really is an excellent dancer with beautiful poise and elegance but there are a few things that she misses on the more Latin style of dances. So these are the dancers I'll be talking about today.
Mike and Katya were in the dance-off, performing their Charleston to Those Magnificent Men. Overall, I loved the comical aspects of the routine. It was fun and it was quirky. However, it lacked a bit of stamina and longevity. I felt as though, at the start of the routine, Mike was full of energy and that really showed through his movements. However, I could tell that he got a bit tired as the routine went on and he messed up his swivels on the partner section. He also struggled a bit with the lifts and keeping his partner straight on them. But, he had excellent dosey does and his facial expressions throughout were amazing. I just think that if he'd cleaned up his performance a little, he would have been able to achieve something higher than 30 which would have put him higher up the leader board.
I've already talked about Emma's potential as a dancer in the past and I still stand by what I said because she does show flashes of brilliance in all of her dances. She had excellent straight legs and pointed feet, and the developpé she did in the routine was amazing and she executed it very well. However, she lost the essential movement in her hips for the Rumba by trying to keep all those other things accurate. She didn't have the figure eight motion in her hips that makes the routine fluid and flow more easily with the music. It had a bit to much staccato and straight leg movement in I he routine and that made it lose the Rumba feel to it. However, if she focuses more on those details and technical aspects for her Latin routines especially, she will do amazingly well in the future.
