An eventful day in a national park storytime- Croatia adventures

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,

We awoke on Sunday morning, excited for the day ahead. We were going to go to a national park and we heard that there were picturesque views of the countryside. This was why we were excited. However, baring in mind, we have never been to Croatia so we can get lost VERY EASILY. And that's what happened. But, I suppose, that is all part of the adventure.

We started off on a very large road which decreased to a smaller road which decreased again to an even smaller road. To the point when we were even driving through beards of people. That aside, the views from the car were magnificent. From my tiny car window out swept a beautiful rocky beach with clear waters. Something that I noticed in almost all the beaches in Croatia. However, these tiny roads meant that the journey took even longer. My dad, the only good navigator in the car, was trying his hardest to get us to the national park. He thought that he found a short cut to the main road across a bridge. However, he was using Google maps and he didn't zoom in far enough so we soon found out that the bridge and the main road were not connected and that the bridge went over the top of the main road. Anyway, after travelling through an excessively long tunnel, we made it to the national park.

Me, my mum, and my sister all needed the toilet because we just spent over 2 hours in the car so we decided to use the toilets in the nearby restaurant whilst my dad and my grandad were sorting out the picnic because at this point, it was already lunch time.

We ate, put our trainers on, and decided to head off. We decided to walk down a grassy path off of the road. It all seemed fine at first but then me, my sister, and my dad were all getting extremely itchy legs so we quickly turned back, brushing off our legs as we did so. My sister was covered in what looked like gnat bites but since we all got something similar, we concluded on the thought of it being an allergy to the grass.

We walked on a different route, this time by a small road and not grass. It wasn't quite as beautiful but definitely a lot better. We were a bit worried that we might have walked through an area with ticks early on but we knew that in France, it would have been marked on a board. That was a mistake. We were walking and my sister was checking her legs and she found what looked like a tiny tick on her leg. I immediately started to panic but my parents were calm and my mum took it off using her nails.  We are still not sure if it was a tick because it was so tiny but if it was, number 1 it wasn't big and probably below the average size which is 3-5 mm, and number 2 it didn't seem to have properly bitten into her skin because it seemed easy to take off. My sister is fine now, a few days later and we are all happy about that. I got checked for any ticks but none were found fortunately. Nine times out of ten these ticks are benign and a lot of the people walking around us were not wearing long trousers or tops. I do believe that Croatian people are clean and they wouldn't let anything bad happen. But it is something to be more cautious and do a little more research about next time especially since we are from England and ticks don't really exist.

After that event, feeling a little tired and shaken up, we turned back and decided to do the rest of the route by car since it was quicker and a lot safer. Thankfully we did because the route was long and probably not doable by foot considering the short amount of time we had left. But, it was so worth it because we arrived at this tower on top of a hill over looking the beautiful Croatian countryside below. I even found a bit where you could do paragliding. I'm scared of heights but that is something I would like to try in the future. We took some photos of the views which I uploaded to Instagram. I also took a Polaroid using my Instax mini 9 camera however, I'm still getting used to using it and we found that there was too much light and I used the wrong setting so the photo came out over exposed. But the other pictures I took using my phone were really nice.

Me and my sister, who is thankfully okay now.
