All about: Dytto - Dance Saturday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,

Firstly, today is my birthday! I can't believe that I'm 16 already. I still look 14 but I'm excited to live out this year as a 16 year old. Lets hope it's not as strenuous as when I was 15!

Anyway, for today's All about:_____ post, I'll be talking about probably the most original, unique, and creative dancer that I've ever seen and that is Dytto!

Born on April 27th, 1998, Courtney Nicole Kelly (otherwise known as Dytto), is a female animation dancer, model, and TV show host who is best known for her popping, locking, robotic, tutting, and street commercial styles that she often showcases on her "Dytto" YouTube channel as well as other famous choreographer's channels like, Matt Steffanina. The reason why she has now amassed over 3.5 million subscribers on her channel is because of the unique style of dance that she performs. When you first see her on stage, you'd think that she was just an ordinary dancer who was about to  perform an amazing showcase. However, what you actually see is quite literally a robot moving exactly in sync with the music and something superhuman. Her style is so different and interesting that millions of people across the world, love watching what she does!

Born in Florida and raised in Atlanta, Dytto initially went from being a gymnast and cheerleader, with exceptional grades in school, to an aspiring professional dancer. Dytto began to explore the realms of various different dance styles and grew a particular interest around the urban forms of dance. Realising her true potential as a dancer who specialises in popping and locking, Dytto was able to gain a unique place in the dance community, by doing something that very few people could do. Her hip-hop, tutting, and body robotics brought her to her hometown of Los Angeles, where she became a very sought-after performer.

Labelled the "Barbie Girl," after performing her insane first freestyle routine to the Barbie Girl Trap Remix, Dytto's first video of her dancing reached over 40 million views, which shocked the Internet and Dytto herself. After just turning 17 years old, Dytto had a her first video go viral on her birthday. She continues to recognise it as “The best 17th birthday gift she could have ever received.”

Official World of Dance

One of my favourite videos of Dytto dancing is when she did a tutting routine to Lovely by Billie Eilish and Khalid. I can hardly understand how she managed to perform her tutting, which is usually danced to upbeat music, to an incredibly slow and moving song. Not only that, she also portrayed a story throughout her whole entire dance and every movement she did, fit perfectly with the music. She also did a similar tutting routine to Lose You to Love Me by Selena Gomez and it was amazing as well. She actually had a much deeper and more personal story behind this routine as she was talking about a past and toxic relationship that she was in. I thought it was incredibly emotive and original too!

For this exact reason, I think this is why Dytto has literally changed the way we look at dance. I've seen a few people dance hip-hop routines to classical and slow music but I've never really seen as many people execute the routines as well as Dytto. Dytto not only has a unique style of dance, but it's unique and well-executed, so that everything she does looks different but never out of place. That is not only a skill and a talent but something that is really inspirational. I feel like as dancers, we should work towards embracing our original style. There's a common misconception that all dancers have to look the same and whilst there should be unity, we should be celebrating the different ways we move as well as that can really make or break a routine. Dytto is so precise with what she does yet she is also really unique and different and I think that is something that we can all implement into our own dancing.💜

Have you ever heard of Dytto before? Do you like the tutting style? Let me know in the comments below and I'll be sure to reply to them. I ♡ hearing from you!
