Trying meditation 🧘‍♀️ - Lifestyle Monday

Hello everybody and welcome back to another blog post,

I feel like the difference between secondary school me and sixth form me is quite stark. When I was in secondary school, although I absolutely loved my time there, one of the reasons I was also excited to move on when I reached year 11 was that I wanted to decrease the stress and the work load of school. In some respects, sixth form has given me the ability to do that because I can be a lot more independent and I can therefore be more relaxed with my working during my free periods. However, independence also comes with a lot of responsibility which takes a lot of work and effort 99% of the time. I've got to manage my own time to complete certain tasks, I've got to do chores at home, I'm now tutoring one of my classmates in French, I do ballroom dancing after school on Thursday, I work at Project 21 on Saturday morning, and I try to manage the upkeep of my blog (which hasn't necessarily been easy, as you've probably noticed).😂🤦‍♀️ Although I love what I do, sometimes the work can get a bit much to the point where it's incredibly easy for me to forget to stop. I think the recent couple migraines I've been having have been a telltale sign of that.

However, the solution to the work load issue has been present, I've just not been paying much attention to it. Throughout the period of online learning, my English teacher, who also happens to have a passion for yoga and meditation, has been hosting some Head Space online meditation sessions at 11:25am every week day morning. At first, I wasn't really sure if I wanted to join in because I wasn't sure if it was my sort of thing or not. However, after trying out my first session recently just to see what it was like, I was pleasantly surprised by the positive impact it had on me. Meditation helps to give you awareness of your current state of mind by allowing yourself to get separated from your thoughts and emotions and reflect on how they make you feel. I've enjoyed meditation so far because it given me much needed time out for myself and it has allowed me to escape any stressful situation for a while and develop the right state of mind to tackle issues later. These sessions do count towards my CAS enrichment programme but for me it has been more rewarding than that because I now feel like I'm being more mindful and I'm doing something for my benefit only. Perhaps that may sound a bit selfish to some people but I think it's important for everyone to do because in this commercialised, artificial world that we now find ourselves living in we can lose ourselves in daily stresses and I think that it's important to find ways to deal with that.

Hopefully, with me going back to school very soon and not having to stare at a computer screen all day, my migraines might stop. However, I'm also looking to continue meditation even after online learning. I've downloaded the Head Space app for myself and I'm very much looking forward to using it. Hopefully this will help me feel a little more calm day to day.
